TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH

Friday 6/5/15

Taking responsibility for your own health!  What does this really mean and why is it so difficult?

Taking responsibility for ones own health means making better choices about what you do with your body.  Choices such as a healthy diet…”you really are what you eat”.  Have healthy versions of all the food groups in moderation.  Our bodies need the calories, vitamins, minerals and nutrients from plants, fruits, nuts, and lean meats.  Everyday I see people making poor choices by consuming soda, fried foods, processed foods.  These choices of wanting sugar, salt, and fat are clogging arteries, creating obesity, raising blood pressure and all sorts of other medical problems.

Choosing to exercise is another necessity all of us should be incorporating into daily life…but the majority of people just will not do this for all sorts of lame reasons.  Our bodies are made up of tissue, organs, muscles and bones that have to be exercised and/or moved in order to work efficiently to maintain their health and to function properly.  What’s even worse combining the choice of poor diet and no exercise is the main reason so many Americans are obese, sick, and on medication!  The majority of this is preventable…

Why is taking responsibility for your own health so difficult?  This is a much more difficult question to answer.  Why, so many people choose to eat unhealthy I can not answer.  There is so much information out there about the harmful effects of to much sugar and salt to the body…yet there is a fast food resturant on every corner that will super size your meal, so that you can have extra sugar, salt and fat!

I guess taking a walk after that meal is out…because you are too full?  I do not know?  There is just as much info out there about why you should exercise daily.  I have never read anything where you have to workout like a an Olympian.  Just take a short walk at lunch.  Play a little tennis after work or on the weekends.  Try yoga or Pilates.  Foundation Training can be done in very small increments…anywhere – anytime.  Foundation Training will get blood flowing, stretch tight muscles and give a boost of energy.  But, I keep forgetting…most Americans choose not?

Dr Mercola wrote an article about different problems with the American healthcare system, one of which stated: The Affordable Health Care Act: Getting MORE of What Isn’t Working

The US does not have a health care system; we have a disease-management system dependent on expensive drugs and invasive surgeries. It’s a system with a mission to maximize profits, as opposed to helping people maintain or regain their health. The Affordable Health Care Act is likely to make matters worse rather than better, as the Act does not include any illness prevention strategies. Nor does it contain any measures to rein in out-of-control health care costs related to overcharges. Instead it expands an already flawed model of “care” that is one of the leading causes of both death and bankruptcy for Americans.
Ronald Reagan hit it right on the nose when he said, “Government doesn’t solve problems—it subsidizes them.” Integrative medicine (IM) is a better alternative to the current system, as it offers a combination of conventional medical therapies and complementary or alternative therapies for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence for safety and effectiveness. The more you take responsibility for your own health by nurturing your body, the less you will need to rely on the “disease care” system that passes for health care in this country.
In my opinion this is so true.

It is up to each and every one of us to regulate what we put in our mouth and how we exercise our bodies.  It is a choice we can each make everyday.  We do not have to make perfect choices all the time.  We need to choose health and exercise over obesity, medication and stress from poor health.

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN

Thur 12/26/13:
Christmas is over and the countdown to end the year has begun. 2014 is all but one week away. A new year, a new beginning, time to start over. Everyone likes a fresh slate. I usually like the last week of the year. Time to reflect, time to plan, time to watch a lot of good football games. My 2013 was ok. I had some good things happen and a few not to good things happen. I’m blessed to say I really have nothing to complain about. Also, blessed to say I’m blessed with the life I have and am living…all my needs are met.
My 2014, will hopefully be more of the same. I’ll continue working on my fitness plans for myself and everyone else. That’s really my favorite thing to do besides playing golf with my friends. It gives me great satisfaction to help others implement a healthy lifestyle into their lives. So, be ready readers….more health/fitness material on the way!
What was you’re 2103 like? Let’s hear some plans and goals for 2014. Everyone have a good day and let’s finish this year out strong with momentum into 2014!

Enjoy December…Start Planning for 2014

Dec 1,2013:
Can you believe 2013 is almost gone? For myself it has been a very busy year with a good amount of change involved. Some of the change is not yet complete. Hopefully, things play out in 2014. I’m looking forward to some good things happening and of course helping motivate people to get healthy. I’m also loving all the posture/movement things I’m learning. This information is really going to help a lot of people. So, for me bring on 2014!

Lets talk a little about planning for 2014. What are your fitness plans for 2014? Who’s going to join a gym? Hire a trainer? If your having trouble picking out a Christmas gift…get someone a gym membership, or some training sessions with a trainer. I have yet to understand why more people don’t do this. Give people what they need…we are talking about helping people change their lifestyle.
The gift of health is so much more valuable than new clothes, electronic accessories, jewelry, and the like.

Nothing annoys me more than for people to tell me they can’t afford a gym membership or some training sessions. Yet, people will buys Starbucks every morning, or eat out for lunch everyday, have cocktails one or two times a week. All this adds up quick! There’s your membership dues right there, or your trainers fee. A good trainer can help you if you only meet once per week….
It’s all about YOU wanting to change your ways.

Start evaluating what has happened in 2013. Have you gained weight? Have your gained more weight again? Do your clothes fit? Why would you buy new clothes if your just getting bigger? Look in the mirror….do you like what you see? Are you going to just keep making excuses? I don’t have time…the kids keep me to busy…I’m to tired after work…I can’t afford it…it cost to much.
A 4.00 Starbucks x 5 days a week = 20.00 a week. That’s 80.00 a month! Come on people… Lets do another one.
A 2.00 McDonalds breakfast x5 days a week = 40.00 a month…there’s practically a membership there and that’s why you’ve gained weight on top of things.
Do you want to change? That’s really everyone’s own personal decision. If you do…then change. It takes commitment, getting rid of bad habits, yep…you’ll probably have to spend some money for help. Most people spend a lot of money for their bad habits…why not turn it around for better habits?

Gotta go for now…I’ll be back.

Who has the next “BIG” idea?

Tue March 26,2013: Here we go. Let’s do what needs to be done! I really want everyone to find a fitness program that works for you. Let me know what I can do to help… If you don’t speak I can’t hear. Maybe some of my fellow fitness guru’s and bloggers have ideas where we can ban together and create something new and unique to help make the world a fitter and healthier place. I just know there is something “big” other there we can start …
Anyway, I’m just in my head thinking this morning…gotta get ready for the day

YIKES!!! Springbreak is Next Week!

Mon March 4,2013: A new week is upon us. One week before spring break. I talk about spring break like I get to go on a vacation!! LOL! I’ll be right here blogging, training and working at the dentist. Hopefully, I’ll at least get some golf in. For those of you who actually get a spring break…have fun and let me hear of some of your adventures and good times. Hopefully, you have been working out and getting that body ready for the beach or the slopes. Even, if you haven’t worked as hard as you should have…get in the gym this week, pull out those beachbody DVD’s, and get busy! Let this panic week of not being where you want to be… be your motivation to start. We can all have the body we want to have…it ain’t easy! You still have to do the work…it can be done. Get on board and change your life….MOVE…that body. No negativity, no excuses! Get on my team and we can do this. Have a great day!

Commitment

A quitter never gets where they are going.  We’re into the 3rd week of the New Year…Jan is a long month.  It’s cold in the mornings and dark when you get home from work in the evening for most of us.  For, those of us whose enthusiaim is starting to fade with our new fitness attitude….DON’T let it happen.  This is not commitment about just working out….it’s commitment about our own personal well being.  This is your “HEALTH” we’re talking about.  It’s more important than anything else.  If you don’t have it….Well, life probably won’t be to much fun.  So, get up!!! Go to the gym,the basement, the living room floor, the backyard….wherever it is you can get 20, 30 min. in…don’t be a quitter.

Warm up: jog in place-30sec., inch worm-5x, jump jack-30sec., squats- 8 rep, plank 20 sec.  Repeat 2x.

Circuit: Burpee- 30 sec, swing lunge-30sec ea leg {front lunge into a back lunge is one}, plank-30 sec.  Rest 30 sec repeat2x.
